What Is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any sudden oral health problem that causes severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, swelling, or risk of losing a tooth. These situations require prompt professional attention. Delaying treatment can lead to more serious complications and more invasive procedures down the line.
If you’re unsure whether you have a dental emergency in Singapore or looking for an emergency dentist in Singapore, call us. We will advise you over the phone and get you seen as quickly as possible.
Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
At Casa Dental, we handle a full range of dental emergencies on the same day, including:
When Your Tooth Won't Stop Hurting
Persistent or worsening tooth pain that doesn't respond to painkillers is a sign something is wrong beneath the surface. Don't wait it out. Call us and come in the same day.
Knocked-Out or Dislodged Tooth
Time is critical. The sooner you get to us, the better the chance of saving the tooth. Pick it up by the crown, keep it moist, and get to a Casa Dental clinic within the hour.
Swollen or Bleeding Gums
Some bleeding after brushing is common, but persistent bleeding or sudden swelling can signal infection or serious gum disease that needs urgent care.
Dental Abscess or Tooth Infection
Throbbing pain, fever, facial swelling, or a bad taste in your mouth are warning signs of an abscess. Left untreated, the infection can spread beyond the tooth. This needs same-day treatment.
Lost or Broken Filling or Crown
A lost filling or crown exposes the sensitive inner layer of your tooth to bacteria and pressure. Even if it isn't painful yet, come in promptly. Leaving it untreated leads to bigger problems.
Impacted or Painful Wisdom Tooth Pain
Swelling, or difficulty opening your mouth or swallowing can mean your wisdom tooth is infected or impacted. This can escalate quickly and needs to be assessed the same day.
What to Do Before You See Us
Severe Toothache
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to remove debris. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth — this can burn the tissue. Call us immediately and book an emergency appointment.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with clean water without scrubbing. If possible, reinsert it into the socket. If not, place it in a small container of milk or hold it between your cheek and gum. Get to us within the hour to give the tooth the best chance of being saved.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to keep swelling down. Avoid biting on the affected side. If a piece of the tooth has broken off, bring it with you. Seek treatment promptly even if the damage appears minor — untreated chips can lead to nerve exposure and infection.
Swollen or Bleeding Gums
Rinse gently with cold water. Apply firm pressure to the bleeding area using clean gauze or a cloth. If bleeding does not stop after 20 minutes of sustained pressure, come in immediately. Persistent gum bleeding can be a sign of infection or serious gum disease requiring urgent care.
Dental Abscess
A dental abscess is a bacterial infection that forms a pocket of pus around a tooth or in the gum. It can cause intense, throbbing pain, fever, facial swelling, and a bad taste in the mouth. This is a serious condition — left untreated, the infection can spread to your jaw and beyond. Rinse with mild salt water to draw the pus to the surface and reduce discomfort. Do not attempt to drain it yourself. Call us immediately.
Impacted or Painful Wisdom ToothImpacted or Painful Wisdom Tooth
Rinse with warm salt water. Over-the-counter pain relief can help temporarily manage discomfort. If the pain worsens, swelling develops, or you have difficulty opening your mouth or swallowing, this requires urgent treatment. Wisdom tooth infections can escalate quickly.
Lost Filling or Crown
A lost filling or crown exposes the sensitive inner layer of your tooth to bacteria, temperature, and pressure. In some cases it can be painful immediately. Avoid chewing on that side and come in as soon as possible. Do not leave it untreated.
Emergency Dental Care Team
Dental emergencies can happen without warning. Our dental surgeons will assess your condition promptly, relieve discomfort where possible, and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an emergency dentist or can I wait?
If you are experiencing severe or worsening pain, uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling, a knocked-out tooth, or signs of infection such as fever or a bad taste in your mouth, do not wait. These require same-day attention. Minor sensitivity or a small chip without pain can usually wait for the next available regular appointment, but call us if you are unsure, we will advise you over the phone.
What does an emergency dentist do?
On your first emergency visit, our dentist will assess your pain, examine the affected area, and take any necessary X-rays to diagnose the problem. From there, same-day treatment is carried out wherever possible, this may include pain relief, drainage of infection, a temporary or permanent filling, extraction, or the first stage of root canal treatment. You will also leave with a clear follow-up plan if further treatment is needed.
How much does an emergency dentist appointment cost in Singapore?
At Casa Dental, a short consultation starts from $20 and a long consultation from $30. There are no emergency surcharges, you pay standard rates regardless of whether it is a weekday, weekend, or same-day appointment. Treatment costs vary depending on what is required. See our full pricing table above for a complete breakdown.
What if I lose a retainer or Invisalign aligner?
A lost retainer or aligner is not typically a dental emergency, but it should be addressed quickly to prevent teeth from shifting. Contact your treating dentist as soon as possible to arrange a replacement. Do not leave it more than a few days.
Is there an emergency dentist open today near me?
If you’re searching for an emergency dentist near me or need same-day care today, Casa Dental is open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday 10:00am to 8:30pm, and Saturday to Sunday 10:00am to 5:30pm. With 9 locations across Singapore including Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi, Holland, Woodlands, and more, there is always a clinic near you.
What if I am nervous or anxious about seeing a dentist during an emergency?
Dental anxiety is common, especially in an emergency situation. Let our team know when you call or arrive. Our dentists are experienced in managing nervous patients and will take the time to explain everything before proceeding. We work at your pace to keep the experience as comfortable as possible.
Can children be treated for dental emergencies at Casa Dental?
Yes. We treat patients of all ages including children. If your child has knocked out a baby tooth or a permanent tooth, broken a tooth, or is in significant pain, bring them in immediately. For a knocked-out baby tooth, do not attempt to reinsert it, contact us and we will advise you on next steps.
Is tooth sensitivity to cold a dental emergency?
Not always. Occasional mild sensitivity to cold can be normal or a sign of early enamel wear. However, if the sensitivity is severe, persistent, or accompanied by pain that lingers after the cold stimulus is removed, this may indicate nerve involvement or a crack in the tooth and should be assessed promptly. Call us and we will help determine whether you need to come in the same day.
